Alan R. Blackburn II, MD, MS, is a board-certified orthopaedic hand surgeon and fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity specialist.
Dr. Blackburn earned both his medical degree and a master’s degree in molecular medicine from The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, where he remained to complete a five-year residency in orthopaedic surgery. Following residency, he completed a one-year hand and upper extremity fellowship at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Blackburn has training in all aspects of operative and non-operative orthopaedic care in both adults and children. He has received additional advanced training in the management of disorders of the upper extremity.
During an office visit, Dr. Blackburn strives to help his patients fully understand what his or her problem entails, summarize the available management options and their expected outcomes, and provide patient-tailored solutions based upon the best and most current medical evidence.
Dr. Blackburn joined South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine as a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and specialist in hand and upper extremity surgery. He is a member in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the American Association for Hand Surgery. Dr. Blackburn has presented his research at national and international orthopaedic meetings and has published peer-reviewed articles and a book chapter in the recent orthopaedic literature.
